Are You Hungry For Revival?

We get what we want! If our deceived minds vainly believe the world’s food will satisfy us, we will stand in line at its cafeteria. But when the meal is done and we find ourselves still empty, we must remember that there is another table.

The Psalmist knew this. Psalm 119:145-152 is record of his passion, his hunger for God’s reviving. That God would bring him life in its fullness. And his hunger led to a deep cry for revival.

A PASSIONATE CRY

“I cried with all my heart; answer me, O Lord! I will observe Your statues.” (Psalm 119:145)

He did not approach God with a half-hearted plea. He wasn’t coming to add God to his list of things he might need on a rainy day. He cried out to God with all his heart. Every fiber in his being wanted only that which God could supply. And, he came with a willingness to obey. A surrendered heart was crying to the Source of revival.

Is every room of your heart longing for God? Every door thrown open for His entrance?

A DIRECTED CRY

“I cried to You; save me and I shall keep Your testimonies.” (vs. 146)

The Psalmist knew that the only one who could revive him and his land was God.

Who else has the words of eternal life? Where else can we go? Who could possibly give us what our souls need? Who can bring the extraordinary, supernatural movement to our land except God? We must not look to a program or a person or a government to save us, but to God and God alone.

Has your heart become desperate for Him alone?

A CONSTANT CRY

“I rise before dawn and cry for help; I wait for Your words. My eyes anticipate the night watches that I may meditate on Your word…Hear my voice…Revive me, O Lord.” (verses 147-149)

If you are one of the blessed ones who has come to your senses and hears beyond the clamor of the world’s voices, you will discover an increasing hunger. And this desperation grows as you keep listening to Him.

Desperate people don’t operate on a schedule. They are up early in the morning or late at night. They are driven by a passion for something that transcends superficiality.

Evan Roberts, the young student who became a great instrument in God’s hand for revival during the Welsh Revival of 1904, was awakened by God every night for months on end. In these “night watches” God was the only Voice he heard. The Lord was preparing him, breaking him, giving him a message.

Does your hunger make you rise before dawn when He calls? Do you look forward to His call? Do you anticipate the night watches to meet with God?

AN EXPECTANT CRY

“You are near, O Lord, and all Your commandments are truth.” (verse 151)

God is not hiding. “Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, that glory may dwell in our land,” the Psalmist wrote earlier (Psalm 85:9). He knew God’s lovingkindness longs to bring revival to His people if they will turn and cry out.

When we are hungry we know that if we will draw near to God He will draw near to us. He is waiting. We understand that the God who creates the hunger is the God who satisfies the need. That hunger is the messenger boy to lead us to a waiting Christ.

The Lord is near. He is moving in unprecedented ways across our nation and if we will come with hungry, passionate, surrendered hearts, He will meet us in revival.
